Job Overview

Role Summary: The primary responsibility is to safeguard, guide, engage, and assist children enrolled in the After School and Summer Day Camp initiatives. This role is essential in delivering enriching, character-building activities to school-aged children.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the program director in preparing for daily activities.
  • Gather and organize materials and equipment necessary for each day's events.
  • Serve meals and supervise children during dining times.
  • Manage a designated age group and oversee daily activities.
  • Lead and actively participate in various program components: recreation, snacks, crafts, swimming, field trips, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to facility policies, including prohibitions on swearing, alcohol, drugs, and violence.
  • Implement progressive disciplinary measures when necessary.
  • Document and report incidents following the established procedures.
  • Conduct end-of-day cleaning and organization as required.
  • Driving responsibilities are a critical aspect of this position.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Role: None

Education and Experience: A minimum of one year of experience working with school-aged children is required.

Qualifications: The following qualifications are essential for this role:
  • Flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in accessing payroll, timekeeping, and personal data through a web-based platform.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to foster relationships with children and their guardians.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
Additional Requirements: Candidates must pass all relevant background checks. A valid driver's license from the state of residence is required. Approval through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program is necessary to operate either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle for work purposes.

Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certification are mandatory, along with successful completion of Safe from Harm training within 90 days of employment, as mandated by The Salvation Army.

Physical Demands: The physical requirements outlined here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to effectively perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities. Physical demands include effective speaking, hearing, and vision capabilities, as well as excellent manual dexterity. The ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods is necessary, along with the capacity to lift and/or move over 25 pounds occasionally.

Work Environment: The work setting may range from moderate to loud noise levels. Employees should be prepared to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to be frequently exposed to sunlight.
