Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Coverage Attorney to join our esteemed Claims Legal Department. This role is pivotal in managing intricate coverage and extra-contractual litigation, requiring specialized expertise in General Liability, Latent, Environmental, and International claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all facets of the litigation process, representing the interests of the company.
  • Provide legal counsel and strategic insights in collaboration with corporate law, underwriting, and claims teams on policy language and complex coverage interpretations.
  • Assign cases to external counsel and assess their performance to maintain control over litigation costs.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategies while offering legal advice to Claims and Underwriting teams.
  • Attend trials as necessary, although not as the attorney of record.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree and a minimum of 6 years of legal experience with coverage exposure.
  • Active membership in a State Bar.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Lexis or Westlaw.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in litigation within the insurance sector, particularly in claims or underwriting.
  • Knowledge of Latent, Environmental, and International claims.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various teams.
