The Product Planning & Performance Team at Amex GBT is committed to enhancing the synergy between product development, technology, and business objectives, translating strategic goals into actionable delivery plans.

This position is based in Chicago, and the ideal candidate will be expected to work from the office on designated days.

We create value for leadership and teams by establishing governance frameworks, processes, and regular business ceremonies that promote trust, transparency, accountability, and ownership.

Our team is tasked with designing and executing streamlined planning methodologies using standardized frameworks and tools, which are utilized across product and enterprise service teams to identify interdependencies, allocate resources, visualize roadmaps, contextualize OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), and ensure commitments are met during each development cycle.


As a Product Planning and Performance Lead, you will be responsible for championing planning best practices and facilitating the business rhythm that supports executive decision-making.

Your role will empower teams to consistently deliver exceptional products that align with overarching strategies and objectives by implementing effective planning processes and continuously refining our outcomes.

You will be an adept communicator, passionate about guiding the team’s direction in close collaboration with Product, technology, analytics, and finance leadership.


Key Responsibilities:

Manage Planning, Governance, and Tools:

Take ownership of the planning process, governance, and tool implementation for assigned teams, ensuring operational excellence across product technology and stakeholder teams.


Align Projects with Strategic Goals:

Ensure that team initiatives are fully aligned with GBT's strategic objectives, facilitating effective decision-making and commitment to project roadmaps.


Facilitate Dependency Mapping and Risk Management:

Identify cross-team dependencies, manage risks and constraints, and influence overall delivery timelines for planning milestones.


Provide Comprehensive Portfolio Oversight:

Deliver holistic visibility into the product portfolio, celebrate achievements, highlight risks, escalate challenges, and lead communications with partners across the Product organization.


Drive Feature and Product Development:

Support teams in defining, planning, and delivering high-quality features and products, embedding best practices and collaboration with partner functions.


Ensure Quality Documentation and Coaching:

Uphold high standards for planning documentation, coach stakeholders on best practices, and establish effective knowledge-sharing initiatives.


Analyze and Enhance Planning Processes:

Review plans, allocations, and carry-overs at the conclusion of each development cycle, iterating and enhancing planning processes while proactively identifying operational improvements.


Oversee Backlog Management and Capacity Planning:

Manage the common backlog intake process, ensuring timely evaluation of opportunities and facilitating long-term capacity and resource planning.


Collaborate with Stakeholders:

Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Product, Tech, Analytics, Program Management, Business Operations, and finance teams, to assess business impacts and investment requirements.


Drive Operational Enhancements:

Define and implement product operations best practices, provide clear visibility into roadmap delivery health and OKR/KPI performance, facilitate review ceremonies, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.


Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Professional experience in roles such as Product Operations Manager, Business Operations Manager, Program Manager, or Product Manager.

Strong background in business and financial analysis.

Proven experience in designing and implementing effective planning processes and operational systems to enhance efficiency.

Ability to define, develop, and manage programs that achieve measurable outcomes aligned with strategic goals.

Deep understanding of the product/tech development lifecycle, with the ability to apply Agile or traditional methodologies as appropriate.

Experience in analyzing issues, assessing bottlenecks, and simplifying workflows for improved team performance.

Ability to communicate the impacts and benefits of processes and programs to stakeholders, fostering understanding and trust.

Experience in developing clear and organized materials tailored to various audiences, including policies, procedures, and presentations.

Experience in building and utilizing business cases, capacity plans, and data analysis to inform decisions, including data visualization tools to influence stakeholders and senior leaders effectively.

Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams, driving discussions around scoping, scheduling, and execution of product and technology work-streams.
