About the Role

Cherry Bekaert Advisory, LLC is seeking a highly skilled R&D Tax Credit Senior Associate to join our Tax Credits & Incentives Advisory team. As a key member of our team, you will provide tax consulting services to clients in various industries, focusing on Research and Development Tax Credits and capitalization and amortization rules under IRC Section 174.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct technical interviews with clients to gather qualitative details on their research activities and draft project narratives to document how their projects meet Section 41 guidelines.
  • Review technical documentation to understand common software development methodologies, programming concepts, and architectural design patterns.
  • Work with team members to scope Research Tax Credit benefits, conduct Research Tax Credit studies, and perform tax technical research.
  • Create and update costing models to track business expenditures and calculate credits and capitalization amounts.
  • Develop a strong understanding of employer time tracking and its integration into projects.
Requirements
  • Prior experience in accounting firms working with clients and IRC Section 41 research credit.
  • Recent industry experience in software development, consulting, or engineering is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Information Systems, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Knowledge of common computer infrastructure concepts, web-based or n-tiered architectures, and performance tuning of databases and middleware.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to conduct technical interviews and write project narratives.
  • Strong writing skills to accurately capture and articulate information from subject matter experts.
