Position Overview

Role Summary: The Coordinator for Muslim Life is an integral member of the Spiritual Life team within Student Life, dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that honors diverse religious perspectives. This role is designed to inspire and support students, faculty, and staff in their spiritual journeys, while creating engaging programs that reflect and celebrate Muslim culture on campus. This is a temporary part-time role, with a commitment of up to 20 hours per week.

Reporting Structure: The Coordinator will report directly to the University Chaplain. This position is eligible for overtime compensation in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and does not qualify for visa sponsorship.

Key Responsibilities

Core Duties:

  • Initiate regular meetings with Muslim students to assess their needs and provide necessary support.
  • Offer leadership and assistance during significant Muslim observances, including Friday prayers and Ramadan festivities.
  • Ensure appropriate dining options for students during Ramadan and organize enriching programs during important religious dates.
  • Collaborate with the Muslim Student Association to develop innovative programming that enhances spiritual life and community service.
  • Provide compassionate support to Muslim students as part of the Spiritual Life team.
  • Act as a resource on Islamic practices through classroom engagements and participation in campus events.
  • Engage with prospective students and their families in collaboration with the Admissions office.
  • Facilitate connections with local Muslim communities.
  • Utilize social media to promote and celebrate Muslim life at the university.
  • Partner with the chaplain during interfaith events to foster diverse learning experiences.
  • Work alongside the Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement office to enhance collaboration regarding religious and spiritual diversity.
Additional Responsibilities

Other Duties:

  • Additional tasks and special projects may be assigned as needed to support departmental and university objectives.
Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 2-5 years of experience working with college-aged individuals.
  • Proven ability to create innovative programming that enriches Muslim life.
  • Strong commitment to the Muslim faith and familiarity with its core principles, alongside a capacity for inclusivity.
  • Dedication to interfaith dialogue and building social connections across the campus.
  • Experience in organizing events that celebrate significant Muslim observances.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues in Spiritual Life.
  • Completion of a basic unit in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) or similar experience in providing care support.
  • Excellent communication skills.
