Job Summary

This position leads efforts toward improving Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) workplace performance by promoting a positive safety culture, identifying and mitigating EHS risk and implementing safety and environmental management systems in accordance with regulations, corporate compliance policies and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Design and implement best practice safety programs to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Recommend Risk Mitigation Measures: Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics, to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Administer EHS Programs: Administer environmental, health, and safety programs to meet regulatory requirements, corporate initiatives, company objectives, and business partner requirements.
  • Investigate Incidents: Facilitate incident investigations, root cause analysis, and closure of corrective actions to identify and address potential safety issues.
  • Comply with Regulations: Assist in the administration of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and other relevant safety and environmental standards and reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Develop Safety Culture: Develop and promote a positive safety culture throughout the site to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Communicate Safety Information: Develop content for weekly and monthly Safety communication to keep employees informed about safety-related issues.
  • Partner with Management: Partner with site management to ensure applicable EHS-related goals (accident rates, training participation, etc.) and regulatory requirements (assessments, plans, training, etc.) are satisfied.
  • Analyze Safety Data: Perform data analysis on accident and/or injury information to determine focus areas for remediation and prevention, risk management, and loss prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.
  • Manage EHS Programs: Manage EHS Programs, Policies, and Procedures in accordance with corporate standards.
  • Develop Emergency Action Plans: Work with sites to develop, manage, and keep current all site emergency action plans.
  • Provide Training: Assure forklift (with licensing) or other specialized equipment training is performed and documented at each location.
  • Collaborate with Facilities: Partner with facilities, architects, and other groups to ensure site construction/renovation activities incorporate safety-related considerations.
  • Perform Additional Duties: Duties can expand at the discretion and warrant of need as deemed appropriate by management.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental health & safety, operations, business, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience with OSHA regulations and safety administration in a transportation/logistics, general industry, or warehousing environment preferred.
  • Certifications: Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) & Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Skills: Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence, and initiative without daily interaction with management. Excellent organizational skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize workload. Demonstrated ability to perform accurate work under the pressures of tight deadlines. Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to constructively interact with all levels of the organization and external partners. Proficient with Office programs such as MS Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work in extreme environments such as, varying refrigerated and freezer temperatures and seasonal climate conditions.
