Join SpaceX's Starship Team as a Toolmaker

At SpaceX, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As a Toolmaker on our Starship team, you'll play a critical role in building and improving the mechanical systems and tooling operations at our manufacturing and launch facilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Interpret blueprints at all assembly levels using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Assemble and fabricate support equipment, from shelves to large machine structures, with creativity and precision
  • Apply knowledge of rigging large, heavy, and imbalanced components using overhead cranes, gantries, mobile cranes, and other lifting devices
  • Maintain all components in optimal condition during assembly and disassembly
  • Translate metrology data from inspection reports to final machined surfaces
  • Solve unpredictable field problems with creative modifications
  • Perform manual milling and turning operations as needed for project build
  • Apply creative solutions using field machining equipment
  • Ensure safe operations while meeting SpaceX quality standards
  • Maintain an orderly environment for maximum team utility
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 1+ year of professional experience in toolmaking, millwright, mechanic, boilermaker, or machinist
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with millwright operations
  • Experience in metrology, machining, welding technology, or tooling
  • Completion of an accredited skilled trade apprenticeship program
  • Experience with weld fabrication and ability to pass a welding skills test
  • Understanding of large structure manufacturing from concept to completion
  • Ability to visualize 3-D space and integrate complex geometries
  • Ability to manually inspect components using conventional inspection tools
  • Ability to apply GD&T with discretion relative to assembly function
  • Ability to pass a machining skill test
  • Ability to use and learn various software for observation, analysis, and communication
  • Demonstrated leadership, dependability, and craftsmanship
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to find solutions using critical thinking and mechanical expertise
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of safety on the jobsite
Additional Requirements:
  • Willingness to work overtime and weekends based on operational needs
  • Ability to work off-shift hours on a rotational or permanent basis
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. unassisted, stoop, bend, crawl, walk, maneuver in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods
  • Ability to work at elevated heights
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments - heat, cold, rain
Compensation and Benefits:

Pay range: Toolmaker/Level 1: $21.00/hour, Toolmaker/Level 2: $26.00/hour, Toolmaker/Level 3: $31.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.

You may also accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and will be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year.
