Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Certified Welding Inspector to join our team at SpaceX. As a key member of our NDE Operations organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of weldments and structures across our Falcon, Dragon, Starship, and Raptor programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform internal and external inspections to verify compliance with industry standards and specifications
  • Interpret codes and specifications to ensure accurate and reliable results
  • Compile and submit data on inspection results, as well as communicate with production and engineering teams
  • Recommend and approve repairs, and perform visual inspections of work in progress and completed work
  • Monitor welding processes to ensure they are performed in accordance with qualified procedures
  • Verify and document welder qualifications, and ensure compliance with base metal specifications
  • Appraise welding joint designs and joint preparations for compliance with drawing requirements
  • Verify proper fit, cleanliness, and environmental conditions
  • Verify tack weld quality, preheat and interpass temperatures, and interpass and final cleaning
  • Assure product conformity to drawings and specifications, and verify cleanliness and weld surface quality
  • Oversee NDT examinations, proof, and mechanical testing as required
  • Oversee repair activities, and verify proper performance of post-weld heat treatments
  • Confirm adequate documentation of fabrication and inspection activities
  • Assist in training and developing of other teammates, and support the development of NDE inspection techniques for complex geometries
  • Interpret and review engineering drawings as required, and communicate findings to production and engineering teams
  • Conduct vendor surveillance audits of welding and inspection work as needed
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Current American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
  • Nondestructive Evaluation Level II certification in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in one of the following methods: Radiography (RT), digital radiography (DR), dye penetrant (PT), visual inspection (VT), computed radiography (CR), phase array (PAUT), ultrasonic (UT), ultrasonic shear wave (UTSW), or magnetic particle (MT)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Additional nondestructive Evaluation Level II certifications in line with ASNT TC-1A, NAS-410, or DOD guidance in one of the following methods: Radiography (RT), digital radiography (DR), dye penetrant (PT), visual inspection (VT), computed radiography (CR), phase array (PAUT), ultrasonic (UT), ultrasonic shear wave (UTSW), or magnetic particle (MT)
  • 2+ years of experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standards including ABS, AWS, and ASME
  • Working knowledge of surface and subsurface NDE methodologies
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to lift 25lbs unassisted, bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, and walk
  • Willingness to work overtime and on weekends to meet critical deadlines if needed
  • Willingness to work the third shift (5pm-5am - 10 days on, 4 days off)
Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: NDE Inspector/Level 1: $21.00 - $29.00/hour, NDE Inspector/Level 2: $26.00 - $36.00/hour, NDE Inspector/Level 3: $31.00 - $42.75/hour, NDE Inspector/Level 4: $36.00 - $49.50/hour, NDE Inspector/Level 5: $41.00 - $56.25/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
