Animal Care Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and organized Animal Care Specialist to join our team at Red River Community Corps. As a Kennel Assistant AmeriCorps Member, you will play a key role in launching and maintaining our new Kennel Services program.
Job SummaryThe Animal Care Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the well-being of pets and promoting responsible ownership among our guests. This part-time position involves direct interaction with both the animals and their owners, requiring excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as proficiency in computer software.
Responsibilities- Animal Check-In/Out: Oversee the process of checking dogs and other animals in and out of the kennel through the KIS system, maintaining accurate records of each animal's stay.
- Distribution of Supplies: Hand out food, toys, bedding, and other essential items for the animals, coordinating with volunteers and donors to ensure a steady supply of necessary items.
- Client Engagement: Work closely with clients to educate them on the importance of vaccinations, spaying, and neutering, assisting the veterinarian with monthly kennel days and arranging appointments for shots, vaccinations, and surgeries.
- Kennel Maintenance: Participate in regular kennel cleaning and maintenance to ensure a safe and sanitary environment for the animals, implementing and enforcing kennel rules.
- Program Development: Collaborate with shelter staff to develop and enhance the Kennel Services program, adapting to the needs of the clients and their pets.
- Dedicated to ending homelessness in Oklahoma City with a sense of urgency.
- Strong writing, reading, listening, and verbal communications skills.

The Animal Care Specialist will work in an office and public, service-delivery environment, requiring the ability to lift/move weight up to 30 lbs., move around a large campus quickly, and occasionally work outside during volunteer group projects.
BenefitsAmeriCorps members will receive a living allowance of $461.54 bi-weekly, designed to help members meet necessary living expenses, as well as an education award of $3,697.50 to pay for current educational expenses at qualified institutions of higher education or to repay qualified student loans upon successful completion of their service year.
