About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Field Services Engineer to join our team at ABB. As a key member of our field services team, you will be responsible for planning and executing complex technical field assignments involving the installation, modification, test, inspection, or repair of our products and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute complex technical field assignments with minimal professional guidance.
  • Coordinate work with other groups to ensure meeting customer commitments.
  • Interact with customers to recommend measures to improve operations and customer service.
  • Work independently to install, modify, test, repair, or inspect company products and equipment.
  • Perform or coordinate complex and diverse engineering activities associated with field projects.
Requirements
  • Five or more years of experience in drives and PLC/process control systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or other technical field.
  • Alternately, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments.
  • Familiarity with port/container crane work environment and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
Technical Skills
  • Works independently to install, modify, test, repair, or inspect company products and equipment.
  • Performs or coordinates complex and diverse engineering activities associated with field projects.
  • Interprets technical drawings and schematics and makes changes as necessary in the field.
  • Increases product and technical knowledge through factory or third-party training, technical manuals, and conventional or non-conventional resources.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment, applying personal knowledge and experience.
Projects
  • Represents the company in conferences and meetings with customers.
  • Prepares or provides input for technical documents such as specifications, quotations, procedures, or technical reports.
  • Reports opportunities and problems to management.
  • Prepares timesheets, service reports, expense reports, and other documents immediately following the work assignment.
Complexity of Tasks
  • Field service assignments involve adapting to varying conditions at a variety of customer site conditions.
  • Requires decisive actions involving complex technical matters.
  • Ability to adjust to revised priorities and unforeseen problems while still meeting tight schedules.
  • Travel in the United States and occasionally abroad is required.
  • Remote on-call support for customer technical problems is required.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and squat.
  • Reach to, below, or above shoulder level.
  • Be able to climb ladders.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull.
  • Sit for long periods on an airplane or in an auto to reach job destinations.
  • Have manual dexterity to operate equipment and tools required on the job.
  • Be able to adjust to the height and motions of various container crane types.
  • Withstand exposure to harsh weather, including cold, heat, and/or humidity.
  • Don any required PPE and complete safety trainings.
