About the Role

Zurich is seeking a highly skilled Middle Markets Underwriter to join our team in New York City. As a key member of our Underwriting Team, you will be responsible for handling complex new and renewal Middle Markets business, utilizing your technical underwriting skills and solution-focused problem-solving abilities to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Select Brokers in the New York City region, serving as a customer industry advocate and improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end-to-end solution for their insurance needs.
  • Utilize a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing, leveraging risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at the point of sale.
  • Identify gaps in the market and align Zurich's products and value proposition to offer a solution that provides the contract certainty the customer needs.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and execute as an innovative advisor, underwriting, analyzing, and generating new and renewal business.
  • Develop and maintain agency and broker relationships, working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and experience working on time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
  • Experience working in a team environment and ability to effectively assess risk.
  • Strong negotiation skills, superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations, and guidelines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 or more years of Underwriting experience in Middle Market or larger.
  • Market facing, Property & Casualty underwriting experience and ability to effectively assess risk.
  • Strong retail broker relationships and superior skills in relationship building, active listening, needs analysis, and win-win negotiating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations, and guidelines.
