Puyallup, Washington, United States MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society Full time

Welcome to MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society.

At MedChi, we are committed to fostering a genuine sense of community for all our professionals. Within our healthcare network, you will discover a diverse array of fulfilling careers, avenues for advancement, secure work environments, and adaptable schedules. We are united by our mission - partnering for health and wellness - and dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve.

We are currently seeking qualified candidates to engage in the establishment and implementation of a pioneering consultation model. Our approach involves a centralized team of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry professionals who will deliver consultative services through in-person, telepsychiatry, and telephonic methods. This innovative delivery model enables us to extend essential behavioral health support across our network of facilities. The role of the consultation liaison psychiatrist will involve collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to provide services across multiple locations.

The ideal candidate will lead the care team in delivering psychiatric consultation-liaison services for patients in acute care settings and emergency departments through comprehensive assessments, diagnostics, consultations, and treatment recommendations. The selected individual will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of patient care within the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service by providing consultative interventions in collaboration with the treatment team. Referrals to the consult liaison service will be made by hospitalist teams when significant behavioral health needs are identified. The consult liaison team is responsible for both patient care and providing support and education to the treatment team. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with adult and geriatric patients, and occasionally pediatric patients, demonstrating a commitment to serving high-risk individuals and those with addiction issues. Completion of a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry or a combined residency in internal medicine and psychiatry is preferred but not mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough and precise psychiatric evaluations for patients requiring consultation in the hospital setting.
  • Provide direct psychiatric care for patients in Single Bed Certification (SBC) status.

  • Make informed recommendations regarding laboratory and diagnostic tests to evaluate patient issues and healthcare needs.
  • Prescribe and implement medical therapies or related treatments in accordance with established protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive, outcomes-based treatment plans based on patient evaluations, evidence-based practices, and in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members.
  • Work alongside the C/L team to provide case management services, coordinating with medical and nursing staff as well as external providers.
  • Document patient interactions accurately and timely, adhering to established guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and collaboration for other members of the C/L team.
  • Utilize teaching principles and expert clinical knowledge to educate patients, families, and team members.
  • Engage with third-party payors and managed care organizations to ensure quality patient care is maintained.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient care quality and satisfaction.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Contribute to the organization's success by meeting competency expectations and core values, while also engaging in continuous learning.
