We are looking for qualified candidates to engage in the creation and implementation of a pioneering hub-and-spoke consultation model. This model will establish a central hub of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry professionals to deliver consultative services through in-person visits, telepsychiatry, and telephonic support. The hub-and-spoke framework enables MedChi to extend a crucial behavioral health lifeline across our network of healthcare facilities. This psychiatrist role will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide services across multiple locations.

The ideal candidate will lead the care team in delivering psychiatric consultation-liaison services for patients in acute care environments and emergency departments through comprehensive assessments, diagnostics, consultations, and treatment recommendations. The selected individual will enhance the quality of patient care within the Consultation Liaison Psychiatry service by providing consultative interventions in collaboration with the treatment team. Referrals to the consult liaison service will come from hospitalist teams when significant behavioral health needs are identified. The consult liaison team is responsible for caring for the patient while also offering support and education to the treatment team. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with adult and geriatric patients, and occasionally pediatric patients, demonstrating a commitment to serving high-risk individuals and those with addiction issues. Completion of a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry or a combined residency in internal medicine and psychiatry is preferred but not mandatory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct thorough and precise psychiatric evaluations for patients requiring consultation in the general hospital.
  • Provide direct psychiatric care for patients admitted to hospitals on Single Bed Certification (SBC) status.
  • Exhibit the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver care suitable for adult and geriatric populations, including the ability to gather and interpret information to establish diagnoses and recommend appropriate treatments.
  • Advise on the ordering, collection, interpretation, and evaluation of laboratory and diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions and healthcare needs.
  • Prescribe, recommend, and/or implement medical therapies or other therapeutic interventions in accordance with established protocols, focusing on efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive, outcomes-focused treatment plans based on patient evaluations, evidence-based practices, standards of care, and in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
  • Work with the C/L team to provide case management services, coordinating with medical staff, nursing personnel, and external providers, and formulating treatment plans collaboratively.
  • Document care in a timely, accurate, and concise manner, adhering to established guidelines and using appropriate terminology.
  • Provide supervision and collaboration for other members of the C/L team, particularly psychiatric ARNPs.
  • Utilize teaching principles and clinical expertise to educate patients, their families, the C/L team, medical staff, and trainees.
  • Collaborate with third-party payors and Managed Care organizations to ensure quality patient care is maintained effectively and efficiently.
  • Engage in Performance Improvement initiatives for the department, actively seeking to enhance patient care through participation in designated activities aimed at improving performance and patient satisfaction.
