Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Part-Time Patient Service Specialist to join our team at Optum. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and administrative support to ensure a seamless experience for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain accurate and updated patient information, including name, address, and insurance details
  • Perform insurance verification and obtain patient signatures for required documents
  • Upload patient and insurance cards, and file and maintain medical records
  • Correct registration work queue errors and confirm and schedule appointments
  • Answer telephone calls promptly and courteously, and perform referral documentation
  • Work daily in the claims edit work queue to correct registration errors for submission to insurance companies
  • Adhere to Optum's Employee Policies and work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve specific team goals
  • Keep abreast of current medical requirements, including maintaining patient confidentiality and abiding by HIPAA and OSHA regulations
  • Provide effective communication to patient/family team members and other healthcare professionals
  • Notify clinical staff of schedule changes as they occur
  • Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
  • Demonstrate precision and efficiency in scanning documents and monitoring the fax server
  • Participate in orientation and training of new field employees
  • Collect co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles, and issue receipts
  • Manage cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
  • Process walk-in patients and visitors, and assist coworkers as needed
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1+ years of customer service or healthcare-related experience preferred
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time to cover other practices as needed
  • Have access to reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience working in a medical front office position
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of Epic EMR software
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
