Job Title: Referral Coordinator

OnPoint Medical Group is seeking a highly skilled Referral Coordinator to join our team at Burrows Internal Medicine. As a key member of our clinical operations team, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient care and efficient referral processes.

Job Summary:

The Referral Coordinator is responsible for handling referrals, ensuring that appropriate authorizations are requested, received, and recorded in the EMR. This includes entering progress notes and other pertinent information into the electronic medical record based on application of practices and procedures. Additionally, the Referral Coordinator will fulfill medical record requests, send them to the appropriate areas, and place medical records in the correct locations for patients upon receipt. The successful candidate will also assist with medical assistance calls and clinical work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtains, coordinates, and schedules referrals.
  • Routinely checks physicians' schedules for any additional add-on appointments requiring referrals.
  • Serves as a representative to referring physician offices, insurance carriers, and patients.
  • Collaborates with all departments to ensure all referrals are facilitated.
  • Assists with coordination of activities related to insurance pre-certification/authorization.
  • Facilitates prior authorizations and ensures prior approval requirements are met.
  • Performs administrative duties including referral processing, patient registration, verification of benefits, insurance authorizations, patient appointment scheduling, program communication to potential candidates, and communication with referral sources.
  • Assists in providing medical record requests along with uploading pertinent medical records provided by specialists.
  • Backs up Medical Assistants if needed.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years related experience in a medical practice in insurance processing and follow-up.
  • Current BLS card required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years medical business office experience. Demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving abilities. High-level interpersonal skills, knowledge of information systems.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation:

$20 - $24 / hour
