Applicants must have no disciplinary actions within the last 6 months, maintain a point level of 6 attendance points, and have at least 6 months in their current position unless promoting, in which case less than 6 months is acceptable.
Position Overview:
- Responsible for the care and management of hens. Inspects eggs to determine quality and suitability for incubation by performing the following duties.
- Feeds, waters, and weighs birds according to established schedules (10%)
- Cleans and disinfects waterers, changes and cleans nest pads, dusts nests, maintains cleanliness in the egg room, and performs other routine housekeeping tasks; adds or changes litter (10%)
- Records information as instructed, including egg counts, bird weights, medications, feed intake, and mortality rates (10%)
- Grades and records egg quality, distributing or disposing of eggs according to company standards (10%)
- Collects eggs from designated areas, records the number of eggs laid by each hen (25%)
- Additional duties may include inspecting poultry for diseases, removing weak or ill birds, monitoring feed and water systems, and maintaining biosecurity protocols (10%)
- Performs basic arithmetic as needed for recording data according to company standards (25%)
- This position requires adherence to strict biosecurity measures, including changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate attire is provided by the company. Jewelry is not permitted on the job site, except for medical ID jewelry. Employees must agree to avoid contact with avian species and comply with company biosecurity and animal welfare guidelines.
- Physical: Must utilize safe lifting techniques. Regularly required to stoop or bend to collect eggs, potentially up to 300 times per shift. Must regularly lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally push or pull heavier items (up to 300 pounds). The role involves standing and walking for the majority of the shift on concrete surfaces.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Safety glasses, goggles, face shields, chemical gloves, waterproof aprons, and rubber boots are mandatory. Ear protection will be used as necessary.
- Common Chemicals: Disinfectants such as bleach and other cleaning agents.
- Work Environment: Employees may encounter wet, slippery surfaces and varying temperatures, including hot, cold, and humid conditions.
- Safety: Team members are expected to adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including hazard communication and personal protective equipment protocols.
