Role Description

The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Hematology Clinician. This center offers a collaborative atmosphere for research and clinical practice, featuring a diverse team of experts. The Hematology Program is a vital part of the center, currently comprising 32 faculty members and 15 advanced practice providers, with a strong focus on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) care.

About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

The successful candidate will become part of one of the leading pediatric hematology/oncology programs in the nation.

  • Ranked among the top pediatric cancer centers in the country.
  • Annually, we provide care for over 7,000 children facing cancer and blood disorders.
  • Our pediatric hematology program is the largest in the nation, managing over 2,000 active SCD patients.
  • We lead in Sickle Cell research and treatment, conducting extensive studies on hemoglobinopathies.
  • Our Hemostasis and Thrombosis program is recognized nationally for its clinical and research excellence.
  • We perform approximately 80 blood and marrow transplants each year, focusing on curative therapies.
  • The center includes 115 faculty and 35 advanced practice providers engaged in vital research.
  • In recent years, our faculty has secured significant extramural funding for research initiatives.
  • We offer a fellowship program for six fellows annually, emphasizing clinical and research training.
  • Our Developmental Therapeutics Program features a wide array of clinical trials.

This position will primarily focus on inpatient clinical responsibilities within the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center.

  • Deliver high-quality clinical services to ensure exceptional patient care.
  • Allocate 70-90% of time to inpatient duties, with remaining efforts directed towards outpatient facilities based on research interests.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to enhance clinical services in SCD and general hematology.
  • Opportunities for research and educational involvement may be available based on experience.
  • Contribute to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Responsibilities may include both inpatient and outpatient care, with adjustments based on service requirements.

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO degrees.
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
  • Current medical licensure and eligibility for licensure in Georgia.
  • A proven track record of clinical excellence.
  • A commitment to mentoring trainees and junior faculty.

Compensation and faculty rank will be aligned with experience and achievements. The emphasis of this role will be on clinical service and administrative responsibilities.
