Job Summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Specialist to join our team. As a Phlebotomy Specialist, you will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients and processing specimens in a laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect blood samples from patients using aseptic techniques and equipment.
  • Label and process specimens accurately and efficiently.
  • Accession and deliver specimens to the appropriate laboratory section.
  • Perform blood glucose monitoring and other laboratory tests as assigned.
  • Assure accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to questions from physicians and nurses regarding laboratory testing.
  • Perform laboratory/radiology clerk duties, including answering phones and releasing lab orders.
  • Participate in teaching and training as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior phlebotomy experience desired.
  • Phlebotomy Certification (PBT) or eligibility for certification within 90 days.
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification within 90 days.

Physical Demands

The Phlebotomy Specialist will be required to stand for long periods, use hands to handle equipment and specimens, and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
