Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Counselor Advocate to join our team at the Violence Intervention Program. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive crisis intervention and self-empowerment counseling to survivors of gender-based violence, as well as direct services in the form of case assessment, case management, and advocacy related to criminal legal, social welfare, housing, immigration, and other related systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct initial needs assessments and provide intensive case management services to clients and their children.
  • Provide personal support, including translation and accompaniment services, to help clients access public assistance, housing, education, and healthcare.
  • Advocate for clients throughout the legal, immigration, social, and human resources systems.
  • Assist clients with educational needs, including tutoring services, school placement, and medical services.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes in entitlements and benefit resources, and provide information and referrals to clients as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and outcomes.
  • Develop service plans with measurable outcomes and services, and ensure that clients receive trauma-informed care.
  • Work collaboratively with staff and other service providers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Attend regular agency and program meetings, including supervision sessions, trainings, and case conferences.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant experience.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in advocacy and/or counseling, particularly in the area of domestic violence, women's and children's issues, or related fields.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and collectively.
  • Knowledge of working with diverse communities, particularly Latinx, people of color, and low-income populations, and delivering culturally competent services.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copy machines, fax machines, and phone systems, with strong internet and software skills.
  • Excellent judgment, compassion, and sensitivity, with the ability to provide trauma-informed care.
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and maintaining agency, program, and client confidentiality.
  • Passion for intersectional social justice issues impacting survivors of trauma.
