The Community Service Society (CSS) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Health Counselor to join its Health Initiatives Department. As a Health Counselor, you will play a critical role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families in accessing services and resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert guidance and support to clients on navigating the OPWDD system.
  • Represent clients in accessing services and advocating on their behalf.
  • Respond to live calls from consumers, family members, or their representatives on the IDD Ombuds program Helpline.
  • Develop and maintain resources, training materials, and fact sheets to support clients and stakeholders.
  • Maintain thorough case records of services provided or referrals.
  • Identify systemic trends or practices that adversely affect clients and collaborate with senior CSS staff and stakeholders to address these issues.
Requirements:
  • A graduate degree in a relevant field, such as law, health policy, or social work.
  • Lived or significant work experience concerning issues facing people with IDD.
  • A minimum of two years of experience providing assistance to consumers and/or advocates on issues concerning people with IDD, health insurance, or healthcare access.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Mission-driven, with strong research and advocacy skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and SalesForce database management skills.
  • Written and spoken fluency in Spanish or another language besides English is a strong asset.
Benefits:

This position is union-represented by local 1199 SEIU with an annual salary of $77,456.00 and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage provided by 1199. Community Service Society offers a comprehensive employee benefits package, including life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance, 403b retirement savings plan, defined benefit retirement plan, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits plan, EAP, and more.

CSS currently offers a hybrid work environment requiring onsite work at CSS' office at least two days per week and three days per week remote work.
