Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at the State of California. As a Recreation Therapist, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic recreation programs for patients within our correctional institutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs for patients, including individual and group recreation therapy sessions.
  • Monitor and document treatment progress, and work with other healthcare providers to share recreational therapy assessment information and incorporate therapeutic recreational activities into treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to patients.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to determine patient needs and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide education and training to patients and staff on recreational therapy techniques and best practices.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in recreation therapy or in recreation and leisure studies with a specialization in recreation therapy.
  • Registration as a Recreation Therapist with the relevant state licensing authority.
  • Experience working with patients in a correctional setting, preferably in a therapeutic recreation role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
