Job Overview:

HKS New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Architect to join our team. As a recognized leader in the field, you will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and delivering exceptional projects for clients. You will possess strong communication skills, a flexible attitude, and the ability to solve problems creatively. You will also be responsible for fostering and managing effective client relationships, providing technical leadership, and acting as an advisor on projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of architects and engineers in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems.
  • Collaborate with project managers in defining project work plans and developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlines.
  • Develop and modify complex detailed implementation documents to incorporate the design intent, using diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices and advanced techniques.
  • Supervise the preparation of documents by architectural teams, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice, and quality expectations.
  • Manage the technical resolution and coordination for the project.
  • Write reports or specifications for assigned projects.
  • Prepare client presentations and present design concepts and drawings.
  • Maintain open communication with clients and provide guidance through projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, public agencies, consultants, and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, respond to requests for information, clarifications, and modifications, and obtain approvals, negotiations, and adjusting scope of services.
  • Communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentations.
  • Attend on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings and document as needed.
  • Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team, including promoting communication and creating approachability.
  • Actively promote and incorporate the firm's principles of 'design excellence' through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of design.
  • Collaborate in managing projects to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspectives while delivering a quality work product.
  • Responsible for delivering a project on defined budget requirements and maintaining accountability to project plans and planned utilization rates.
  • Support and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets, and schedules.
  • May lead proposal preparation processes and participate in negotiations of scope and fees on contracts.
  • May participate in marketing interviews.
Qualifications:
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture.
  • Architectural Registration required.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience.
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
  • Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D modeling software preferred.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines, and QA/QC process.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to manage teams with diplomatic leadership styles that put value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.
