Senior Project Architect

HKS New York is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Architect to lead our Culture team. As a recognized leader and licensed Architect, you will be responsible for envisioning, designing, and delivering exceptional projects for clients. Your strong communication skills, flexible attitude, and ability to solve problems creatively will enable you to foster and manage effective client relationships. You will be responsible for high-impact decisions, providing technical leadership, and acting as an advisor on projects. You will endorse the firm's values by personally influencing client service, innovation, and communication. You will act as a subject matter expert for technical solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Project Architects in planning work and developing solutions to technical and design detail problems.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager in defining project work plans and developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlines.
  • Lead the creation and modification of complex detailed implementation documents to incorporate the design intent, using diverse knowledge of architecture principles and practices and advanced techniques.
  • Lead the development of code analysis and confirm that code and zoning requirements for assigned segments of the project are met.
  • Supervise the preparation of documents by the architectural team, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice, and quality expectations.
  • Manage the technical resolution and coordination for the project.
  • Write reports or specifications for assigned projects.
  • Prepare client presentations and present design concepts and drawings.
  • Maintain open communication with clients and provide guidance through projects.
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager, clients, public agencies, consultants, and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, respond to requests for information, clarifications, and modifications, and obtain approvals, negotiations, and adjusting scope of services.
  • Communicate with client representatives to verify design requirements and specifications, progress reviews, and delivery of final presentations.
  • Attend on-site visits, field reviews, and project meetings and document as needed.
  • Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetings.
  • Foster and maintain a collaborative professional working relationship with the project team, including promoting communication and creating approachability.
  • Actively promote and incorporate the firm's principles of 'design excellence' through the integration of responsible and sustainable design practice with the art of design.
  • Collaborate in managing projects to satisfy requirements from budget and schedule perspectives while delivering a quality work product.
  • Responsible for delivering projects on defined budget requirements and maintaining accountability to project plans and planned utilization rates.
  • Support and may lead the business development process by identifying new opportunities, marketing current clients for repeat business, and assisting with proposals, budgets, and schedules.
  • May lead the proposal preparation process and participate in negotiations of scope and fees on contracts.
  • May participate in marketing interviews.
Qualifications:
  • Accredited professional degree in Architecture.
  • Architectural Registration required.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience.
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
  • Proficiency in architectural software such as Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D modeling software preferred.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines.
  • Advanced knowledge of architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines, and QA/QC process.
  • Advanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and apply/incorporate into implementation documents.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to manage a team with a diplomatic leadership style that puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, and professional manner both verbally and in writing.

Base Salary Range: $120k - $160k annually

The estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in the New York location only. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
