About the Job

The National Park Service is seeking a skilled Motor Vehicle Operator to join our team at Bandelier National Monument. As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will be responsible for operating a variety of vehicles, including pickup trucks with and without trailers, and heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, sewage trucks, water trucks, and garbage trucks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate motor vehicles safely and efficiently, adhering to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on vehicles and equipment, including checking and topping off fluids, checking tires, and cleaning.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair tasks, such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
  • Perform custodial duties, including sweeping, scrubbing, waxing floors, cleaning and deodorizing lavatories, urinals, toilets, and sinks.
  • Assist with masonry work, including assisting in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures.
Working Conditions

As a Motor Vehicle Operator, you will be required to work outside and be exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. You will also be required to operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and be exposed to the danger of serious accidents.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required.
  • You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You must possess, obtain and maintain a current Class A (or higher) Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year of EOD.
  • You may be required to be fitted for a Respirator (Respirator Fit Test).
  • You will be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home.
