Position Overview

A postdoctoral opportunity is available within the Division of Cardiology at UW Medicine, focusing on the investigation of mitochondria-containing extracellular vesicles (MitoEV) and their involvement in sterile inflammation linked to heart failure and type 2 diabetes.

Role Responsibilities

This is a full-time postdoctoral role with a 12-month appointment. The selected candidate will engage in research aimed at understanding the immune-modulating functions of circulating MitoEV in chronic inflammatory conditions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Cell-Based Research (50%):
    • Creation of gene-deletion monocyte lines utilizing CRISPR technology.
    • Conducting volume-metric flow analysis to quantify MitoEV release.
    • Performing confocal and electron microscopy to examine subcellular structures.
    • Executing biochemical assays for functional and anatomical assessments of mitochondria and lysosomes.
    • Assessing mitophagy and autophagy through live-cell imaging and flow analysis.
  • Mouse Model Development (50%):
    • Generating and maintaining gene-knockout mouse lines.
    • Administering isolated MitoEV via venous injection.
    • Conducting small animal nuclear imaging to analyze tissue targeting of MitoEV.
    • Performing tissue inflammation analysis.
    • Utilizing trans-thoracic echocardiography to evaluate left ventricular function.
Research Environment

Compensation

The base salary for this role is set at $5,705 per month, adjusted based on experience and qualifications.
