Job Summary

Under the supervision of a Sr. Custodian Supervisor, Lead Custodian, or Operations Manager, the incumbent performs a variety of custodial duties to maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collection and Disposal of Solid Waste and Soiled Linen: Follows Infection Control Policies, empties and cleans waste receptacles, labels and collects infectious and non-infectious waste, and disposes of soiled linen via linen chute or covered carts.
  • Floor Care: Sweeps, dusts, and mops hard floors, spot cleans stains, vacuums carpets, and uses standard cleaning equipment to strip or scrub floors, apply floor finish/sealer, and burnish floors.
  • General Cleaning: Dusts and washes furniture and fixtures, cleans over bed tables, side tables, chairs, patients and staff lockers, IV stands, and wall-mounted fixtures, and sanitizes walls, toilet bowls, urinals, sinks, mirrors, and soap dispensers.
  • Supplies and Equipment: Requisitions paper supplies, hand lotion/soap, chemicals/cleaning solutions, and maintains an adequate inventory of cleaning materials and supplies.
  • Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as instructed by immediate supervisor, may be reassigned to other work areas, and secures/locks work area.

Requirements

  • Ability to clean and maintain assigned areas in conformance with established procedures and standards.
  • Good working knowledge of appropriate cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to apply cleaning methods and techniques in special areas following given guidelines.
  • General knowledge of equipment needed in emergencies such as floods, disasters, or fires.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with associates, supervisor, and hospital staff members.
