Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Custodian to join our team at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center. As a Senior Custodian, you will play a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our clinical settings, including patient rooms, public areas, and offices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform cleaning duties for clinical settings, including patient rooms, public areas, and offices.
  • Load and unload trash receptacles, collect and transport recyclable materials.
  • Fills soap and towel dispensers, reports on building equipment and supply needs.
  • Ensure the security of assigned spaces, perform specialized cleaning in laboratory and medical spaces.
  • Move, set up, and take down furniture and appliances as required.
Requirements
  • Up to one year of satisfactory work experience in hospitals, hotels, and industrial janitorial cleaning.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to speak clearly in English.
  • Willingness and ability to tolerate occasional unpleasant sights and odors.
  • Good grooming and personal cleanliness, willingness to wear prescribed attire.
  • Ability to meet physical demands involved, including standing, walking, stooping, crouching, and reaching.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to lift and move furniture and equipment, perform duties using gloves if skin cannot tolerate cleaning chemicals or solutions.
  • Willingness to work in any area or shift, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as requested.
  • Ability to clean and maintain assigned areas in conformance with established procedures and standards.
  • Good working knowledge of appropriate cleaning methods, materials, and proper use and care of floor machines.
  • Ability to apply appropriate cleaning methods and techniques in special areas following given guidelines.
  • General knowledge of equipment needed in emergencies, such as floods, disasters, or fires.
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with associates, supervisors, and clinical staff members.
  • Background check, UCSF Occupational Health clearance, and physical examination required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • University and/or Medical Center experience.
  • Current valid California Driver's License.
