Junior Electrical Engineer

The New York Power Authority is dedicated to fostering an inclusive workplace. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer I who will play a crucial role in delivering electrical engineering assistance across various generating plants and transmission substations throughout New York State.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering efforts on a limited scope of electrical equipment design modifications, applications, and failure investigations.
- Conduct thorough inspections and assessments of existing electrical systems to ensure proper installation and identify potential issues.
- Guide and review the work of electrical design and drafting teams in creating project drawings.
- Provide both office and field engineering support during construction or maintenance activities.
- Ensure project deadlines are consistently met as directed by supervisors.
- Coordinate effectively with other disciplines and departments to ensure successful project execution.
- Evaluate vendor products to confirm compliance with engineering standards and organizational requirements.
- Collect relevant information from sites, vendors, and fellow engineers to facilitate engineering tasks.
Applicants should possess a strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems. The ability to apply a broad knowledge of engineering principles, alongside familiarity with NYPA's policies and objectives, is essential for solving complex engineering challenges and making informed technical recommendations.
Proficiency in current codes, standards, and regulations is necessary, along with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Candidates should demonstrate high computer literacy and have experience working on multi-disciplinary teams. The ability to produce clear and comprehensive reports and develop detailed engineering documents is also required.
Education and ExperienceA Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is required, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience. Candidates should either hold or be actively pursuing New York State Engineer in Training certification. Familiarity with NYPA's policies and business practices is preferred.
Physical RequirementsThis position may require approximately 25% travel within New York State. Candidates must be willing to enter confined spaces and navigate power system apparatuses.
