Junior Technician for Solar Operations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Utilize Data Acquisition tools to identify performance challenges and conduct thorough analyses of system efficiency and equipment functionality.
- Conduct visual, mechanical, and electrical inspections, as well as maintenance and testing of various commercial and industrial solar installations.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, including communication problems, and formulate corrective action strategies.
- Execute commissioning and auditing services for solar electric systems.
- Ensure all Operations and Maintenance tasks at project sites adhere to OEM (original equipment manufacturer) standards and warranty requirements.
- Safely operate in 600Vac and 1500Vdc environments without direct supervision.
- Provide prompt electronic reports detailing field services rendered and offer proactive feedback to the entire ESS team.
- Document and report all faults, deficiencies, and nonconformities encountered on-site. Keep track of time, materials, and travel expenses related to daily tasks.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and third-party vendors, actively participating in team meetings.
- Observe general site conditions, including vegetation management concerns, security risks, and debris impacts.
- This role requires flexibility for travel and may involve working during non-traditional hours.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or technical certification in a related electrical field is preferred.
- NABCEP certification as a PV Installer Specialist or PV Commissioning & Maintenance Specialist is advantageous.
- An active Journeyman Electrician's license is preferred.
- Two to four years of proven experience in operating and maintaining electrical systems.
- Specific experience in Solar O&M or installation is desirable.
- Familiarity with power generation and solar technologies is essential.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- OSHA 30-Hour certification is strongly preferred.
SKILLS:
- Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when necessary.
- Experience with electrical systems and solar photovoltaics.
- Comfortable operating in low voltage and non-hazardous environments without direct supervision.
- Adept at identifying and mitigating hazardous situations safely.
- Knowledge of I/V curve tracing software and thermographic analysis.
- Proficient in troubleshooting using Isolation Diagnostics Equipment (e.g., Megger or Isolation testers).
- Ability to interpret and understand PV System As-built drawings and electrical single-line diagrams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.
- Attention to detail and strong time management skills are essential.
- Familiarity with Data Acquisition Systems is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to drive a vehicle safely and confidently.
- Capability to stand for extended periods and walk distances of up to three miles daily.
- Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps while maintaining three points of contact.
- Visual acuity for depth perception and color differentiation is necessary.
- Comfortable working in various climate conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
- Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
