Key Responsibilities

  • Manage property and casualty claims from initiation to resolution.
  • Analyze accident reports, including property damage and personal injury, to assess liability.
  • Evaluate claims and suggest suitable actions.
  • Conduct field investigations of accidents, engaging with claimants, law enforcement, witnesses, and other involved parties.
  • Collect signed or recorded statements regarding incidents.
  • Recommend appropriate case reserves.
  • Assist in gathering formal evidence through photography, diagram preparation, and measurements at accident sites.
  • Investigate and negotiate settlements for automobile and general liability claims.
  • Resolve claims within established authority limits.
  • Collaborate with litigation managers on litigated cases.
  • Provide backup support for the Claims Manager.
  • Deliver training on various risk management topics as needed.
  • Supervise one or more claims assistants.
  • Work alongside supervisory and management staff in assigned departments, as well as with County and CMS Departments, focusing on accident reviews, loss prevention, and reporting processes.
  • Be available for on-call duties, which may include responding to accident scenes during nights, weekends, and holidays.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • A minimum of three years of experience as an Auto, General Liability, or Multi-Line insurance claims adjuster.
  • Experience in the municipal sector is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities.
  • Capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina insurance regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of investigative techniques and practices related to property and casualty claims.
  • Understanding of public liability negligence laws and relevant case law.
  • Awareness of local government operations and safety regulations.
  • Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in negotiations and investigations.
  • Skill in obtaining information through interviews and investigative methods.
  • Capability to perform fieldwork independently.
  • Ability to interpret accident data and determine liability.
  • Competence in analyzing medical documentation and assessing bodily injury claims for settlement negotiations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or insurance is preferred.
  • A valid North Carolina Property Casualty Adjusters License is required.
  • Compliance with North Carolina Department of Insurance continuing education requirements is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record that meets the standards of the City of Charlotte are required to obtain a City Driving Permit.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with five years of relevant experience.

Or

Associate's Degree with three years of relevant experience.
