Position Overview

The Fitness Center Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the fitness facility. This role includes assisting members with fitness evaluations, setting personal goals, and creating tailored fitness programs. The manager will also ensure safety protocols are upheld in the weight room and will lead group classes for members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage clerical tasks, inventory control, and the training of new staff members while ensuring equipment is maintained for safety and cleanliness.
  • Conduct fitness classes and respond to inquiries related to fitness from members and students.
  • Maintain accurate records and statistics regarding fitness center members and physical education classes.
  • Support members in achieving their fitness assessments, personal goals, and customized programs.
  • Oversee front desk operations, including membership sales, answering phone calls, and providing towels to members.
  • Monitor the weight room to guarantee member safety.
  • Assist instructors with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Open and close the fitness center, supervising attendants and staff.
  • Provide support for institutional events and activities.
  • Conduct orientations for new members on the safe and proper use of weight equipment.
  • Offer fitness guidance and support to individual fitness students.
  • Commit to ongoing professional development through education and certifications in the fitness industry.
  • Be available for a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a fitness-related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a fitness center environment, with a focus on assessing and recommending exercise programs, is required; two years is preferred.

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CPR and First-Aid Certification are required.
  • National certification from ACSM, NSCA, ACE, or AFFA is preferred.

Working Conditions

This position is primarily office-based. The individual must be able to perform all job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, remain stationary during shifts, and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires accessing, inputting, and retrieving information from technology devices and effective communication with others to fulfill job responsibilities. After-hours work, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
