Position Overview

The Fitness Center Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the fitness facility. This role includes assisting members with fitness evaluations, setting personal objectives, and creating tailored programs, while ensuring adherence to safety protocols in the weight training area. The manager will provide leadership and direction within the fitness center during their shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform administrative tasks, manage inventory, train new staff, and ensure equipment is safe and clean, making repairs as necessary.
  • Conduct fitness classes and respond to inquiries related to fitness from members and students.
  • Maintain records and statistics regarding fitness center members and physical education courses.
  • Support members in achieving their fitness assessments, goals, and personalized programs.
  • Manage front desk operations, including membership sales, phone inquiries, and distribution of towels.
  • Supervise the weight room to guarantee member safety.
  • Assist instructors with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Open and close the fitness center, overseeing attendants and staff.
  • Provide institutional support for events and initiatives.
  • Conduct orientations for new members on the safe and effective use of weight equipment.
  • Offer fitness guidance and support to individual fitness students.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in the fitness industry.
  • Be available for a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in a fitness-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a fitness center environment, with a focus on assessing and recommending exercise programs.
  • 2 years of experience preferred.

Licensing & Certification

  • Valid Driver's License.
  • CPR and First-Aid Certification required.
  • National certification through recognized organizations preferred.

Working Environment

This position operates in a general office environment. The individual must be able to perform all job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, remain stationary during shifts, and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds. Accessing, inputting, and retrieving information from technology devices is essential, as is effective communication with others to fulfill job responsibilities.
