Position Overview:

The Culinary Specialist will play a vital role in the preparation, serving, and management of meals in compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as the dietary framework established by Oaks Senior Living policies. This position involves maintaining a clean and sanitized dining environment and assisting with the receiving, rotation, and storage of food products.

Key Responsibilities:

Meal Preparation and Service

1. Accountable for the cooking and serving of meals in alignment with nutritional standards, local health department guidelines, and residents' individual dietary needs and preferences.

2. Ensure timely delivery of food in an appealing manner, adhering to the Oaks Anytime Dining Program.

3. Responsible for providing quality meals, snacks, and special diets as directed by the facility.

4. Present food in an appetizing and visually appealing way.

5. Support residents' independence during meals by providing adaptive tools as necessary.

6. Ensure punctual and pleasant food delivery.

7. Prepare and coordinate food service for special occasions as required.

8. Inform the Food Service Director or Lead Cook of any kitchen equipment malfunctions.

9. Clean dishes and adhere to the established cleaning schedule.

Compliance and Sanitation Standards

1. Ensure adherence to local health department regulations and Oaks Senior Living policies.

2. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen atmosphere.

3. Ensure proper food storage and handling in accordance with infection control protocols.

4. Maintain current CPR & First Aid certification.

Reports to: Food Service Director and Lead Cook

Required Qualifications:

1. Experience in preparing meals for large groups.

2. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

3. A passion for working with older adults and a friendly, caring demeanor.

4. Must be at least 18 years old and pass a satisfactory criminal background check.

5. Must undergo a physical examination by a licensed physician and pass a drug screening.

6. Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Knowledge and Skills:

1. Familiarity with state food handling and kitchen regulations.

2. Understanding of OSHA Standards.

3. Knowledge of fire and safety procedures.

4. Proficiency in operating kitchen appliances.

Physical Requirements:

To meet job expectations, the employee must be capable of performing essential physical tasks for extended periods. Proper body mechanics and safety protocols as outlined by the residence must be followed. In a typical eight-hour workday, the employee will:

1. Stand or walk for up to eight hours.

2. Sit for up to two hours.

3. Frequently support up to 30 pounds.

4. Frequently lift or carry up to 50 pounds.

5. Frequently kneel, bend, and reach.
