JOB SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Imaging Department Director, the Mammography Technician performs mammography procedures and related responsibilities while ensuring patient safety. This role involves the accurate and efficient operation of equipment, applying prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. The technician will also assist with scheduling mammography appointments and provide guidance to radiologic technology students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts mammography procedures on patients of varying ages and abilities.
  2. Performs mammography in multiple settings, including clinics, outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and operating room areas.
  3. Reviews provider orders to ensure appropriate tests are performed.
  4. Executes both diagnostic and screening mammograms.
  5. Assists radiologists during breast biopsy procedures.
  6. Prepares and instructs patients for procedures.
  7. Ensures patient safety by screening females of childbearing age for pregnancy and applying shielding.
  8. Operates imaging equipment accurately, utilizing proper technical factors for diagnostic clarity.
  9. Conducts quality control testing in accordance with established protocols.
  10. Prepares images for review by digitizing prior analog films and retrieving previous digital images from PACS.
  11. Evaluates images for quality and technical precision.
  12. Avoids unnecessary patient exposure.
  13. Supports other imaging procedures as needed.
  14. Provides mentorship and instruction to radiologic technology students.
  15. Assists with answering calls and scheduling imaging appointments.
  16. Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
2. ARRT Mammography certification or ability to obtain within one year of completing competencies.
3. Basic Life Support certification or ability to obtain within four months.
4. Proficient computer skills.
5. Strong interpersonal communication abilities.
6. Proven ability to adhere to the policies, vision, mission, and values of Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital.
7. Consistent and reliable attendance.
