Position Objective

This role encompasses both clinical and administrative functions, which include assisting healthcare providers with patient care and managing clerical, environmental, and organizational responsibilities. The specialist provides essential information to patients, enabling them to fully utilize and benefit from the healthcare services offered.

Key Responsibilities:

· Execute patient care duties as assigned, which may involve checking schedules and managing patient flow; escorting patients to examination or procedure rooms; assisting patients with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and preparation for examinations; gathering patient histories; monitoring vital signs; conducting screenings per provider protocols; assisting providers as necessary; documenting patient information; performing phone triage; administering medications; conveying instructions to patients and families; handling calls, and providing relevant information; verifying prescriptions against physician orders.

· Perform clerical tasks as assigned, which may include sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining laboratory and radiology reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing necessary forms and requisitions; scheduling appointments; managing patient check-in and check-out processes; confirming insurance coverage and patient information; maintaining and updating patient charts to ensure completeness and proper filing.

· Carry out organizational responsibilities as assigned, including upholding and promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency situations; communicating issues related to patients and/or staff with the immediate supervisor.

· Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent, medical assistant certification from an accredited vocational institution, or completion of a college course in medical assisting.

Experience: A minimum of one year of recent experience in a medical facility as a medical assistant, or documented completion of an externship in a medical office. Experience in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.

Performance Competencies:

· Knowledge of the healthcare sector and electronic medical record systems.

· Proficiency in executing medical assistance tasks accurately.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to understand patient education needs and effectively share information with patients and their families.

· Capacity to learn and retain information regarding patient care practices and procedures.

· Ability to project a friendly and professional demeanor.

· Skill in planning, prioritizing, and completing assigned tasks.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Demonstrated compassion and empathy in interactions with others.

Equipment Utilized: Standard medical examination and office equipment, which may include computerized health information management systems for medical records.

Work Environment: A combination of medical office and examination/procedure room settings. Well-lit, well-ventilated, and adequately spaced.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Must utilize appropriate body mechanics when assisting with patient transfers and mobility. Must be capable of lifting up to 30 pounds of supplies. Occasional stress may arise from interactions with staff and patients.
