Position Overview

Salary: $25-$29 per hour

In collaboration with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), ELYON International is seeking to fill multiple (7) Engineering Technician (Civil) roles within the State of Tennessee. The Engineering Technician (Civil) will play a crucial role in supporting various programs, projects, and specialized tasks as part of the NRCS Team.

Key Responsibilities

The Engineering Technician (Civil) will be responsible for:

  • Assisting agency personnel with project documentation and execution, both in office settings and field environments. This role requires outdoor work and presence at local field offices and other business locations.
  • Conducting inventories and evaluations of potential project sites, leading engineering surveys for future designs, and assisting with the development of engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Evaluating construction materials to ensure compliance with specifications, including site visits to quarries and suppliers.
  • Maintaining construction project diaries and communicating regularly with Engineers and Geologists regarding project progress and potential issues.
  • Tracking ongoing quantities for construction projects and notifying relevant personnel of potential overruns.
  • Accomplishing training and certification for Engineering Job Approval Authority (EJAA) as permitted by NRCS policy.
  • Utilizing AutoCAD, Civil 3D 2016, and other technical software to develop and modify engineering drawings.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on NRCS construction drawings and specifications for technical accuracy.
  • Operating various surveying equipment and troubleshooting setup issues independently.
  • Effectively communicating with contractors, landowners, and regulatory personnel on all assigned projects.
  • Adhering to OSHA regulations for construction projects and ensuring compliance among team members.
  • Assisting with the preparation and distribution of reports related to inventory, inspections, and project assessments.
  • Supporting maintenance and inspections of motor vehicles as required.
  • Completing necessary training for other NRCS disciplines to enhance program efficiency and compliance.
Qualifications

Desired education and experience include:

  • A minimum of 1 year of relevant job experience.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills and Competencies

Successful candidates will possess:

  • A valid state-issued driving license.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat DC and various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with office machinery and general office procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to interact professionally with the public.
  • Physical capability to perform duties in field environments, including working in various weather conditions.
  • Independence and self-motivation, along with the ability to work effectively in a team.
