Healthcare Assistant – Wound Management Clinic
While many injuries heal naturally, some require specialized intervention and can be resistant to conventional treatments. Chronic non-healing wounds can result in severe complications, including infections and potential limb loss. The Henry Ford Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center provides advanced treatment and education for serious wounds resulting from medical conditions, injuries, radiation therapy, surgical procedures, or compromised blood circulation in the limbs. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will have the chance to significantly influence the lives of numerous patients while working in a dynamic and supportive atmosphere.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the healthcare provider and nursing leadership, the Healthcare Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical responsibilities to support the quality and compassionate care delivered to patients. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Welcoming and guiding patients to the examination area.
- Collecting medical histories.
- Measuring and documenting vital signs.
- Preparing patients for examinations or procedures.
- Assisting the provider during examinations or procedures.
WORK SCHEDULE: The schedule for this role is Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Basic computer proficiency and typing skills preferred.
- Ability to perform a diverse range of clinical skills related to outpatient care preferred.
- Problem-solving abilities preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
- Experience with EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (minimum hours required).
OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without a clinical externship but with at least one year of experience in clinical medical assisting within the last five years.
OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five years of experience in clinical medical assisting.
OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
OR Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the last five years.
OR Military-trained medical personnel with at least one year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the last five years.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Graduate from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Medical Assistant Program, OR Graduate of a formal medical assistant program, OR Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program. Completion of a clinical externship. Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to outpatient care. Basic computer knowledge and typing skills. Successful completion of pharmacology class and test. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current BLS-C certificate. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
