Position Overview

As a Retail Power Portfolio Management Consultant, you will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of targeted gross margins from retail energy contract sales, particularly within deregulated power markets. This role encompasses the management of all Profit and Loss (P&L) aspects related to the retail power portfolio, including thorough analyses of actuals for delivery months, changes in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and budget forecasting. The Consultant will assess risks, propose hedging strategies, and actively manage price and volume risk exposures inherent in the retail energy sector. Working closely with members of the Portfolio Management Team, you will assist in developing forward price curves for all Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) components of full-requirements products, continuously refining costing assumptions to maintain competitiveness in the retail market while sharing accountability for achieving sales objectives. Furthermore, you will collaborate with various internal departments, including Sales, Business Development, Origination, Trading, Operations, Risk Management, Marketing, and Digital teams, to align with the company’s goals.
  • Trade Instruments: Engage in trading of Energy, Capacity, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Ancillaries, Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs), PPAs, Power Options, and Weather derivatives.
  • Forecasting and Bids: Validate load forecasts and oversee day-ahead demand bids.
  • Reporting: Generate and reconcile daily Net Operating Profit (NOP) and Mark-to-Market (MTM) reports; assess portfolio profitability.
  • Price Management: Develop and adjust forward price curves; manage associated price and volume risks.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience in the retail power sector.
  • Expertise in retail power portfolio management, particularly within deregulated markets.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and statistical skills, with the ability to communicate complex analyses effectively to senior management.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy market fundamentals, including customer usage patterns and pricing strategies.
  • Proficiency in options and hedging practices to manage retail power shape and swing risk, along with advanced skills in MS Excel.
  • Experience in data extraction, transformation, and management using tools such as VBA, SQL, and Microsoft Power BI, combined with strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $112,000 - $157,500 USD annually.

This range represents the average expected compensation for a qualified candidate. Actual salary may vary based on factors such as geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, and internal pay alignment.

In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a competitive bonus/incentive plan.
