Position Summary:
The Community Van Operator is responsible for ensuring safe and reliable transportation services for residents, while also providing essential support to the Activity Director. This role includes overseeing vehicle maintenance and ensuring the vehicle is in optimal condition for daily operations.
Key Responsibilities:
The following duties are essential functions of the position and may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Transport residents to various destinations in accordance with the established schedule.
- Assist residents safely in and out of the vehicle.
- Secure wheelchairs using appropriate restraints to ensure passenger safety during transit.
- Adhere to safe driving practices at all times.
- Maintain cleanliness and service the vehicle with necessary fuel and lubricants, while coordinating any required maintenance and repairs.
- Implement and monitor daily and weekly vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance protocols, maintaining accurate records.
- Support the Activity Department in organizing and executing activities and programs as needed.
- Provide assistance to the Maintenance Department when required.
- Ensure that all travel-related charges are submitted to the business office on a daily basis.
- Maintain a clean driving record in accordance with company standards.
- Handle emergency situations and provide basic First Aid as necessary.
- Report any potentially hazardous conditions promptly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a Passenger Endorsed License.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with one to three months of related experience and/or training, or a combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years of safe, accident-free driving experience and familiarity with vehicle maintenance programs.
- Ability to operate vehicles ranging from 7 to 16 passengers, including buses and limousines, as well as necessary equipment for tire changes and First Aid.
- Experience with emergency vehicle repairs and minor on-road maintenance.
- Knowledge of local streets within an 8-mile radius of the community.
