Job Description

Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist
Department: Imaging
Reports to: Imaging Supervisor
FLSA Status: Exempt/Non-exempt
Supervises Others: No

Summary: Responsible for the preparation, administration, and measurement of radioactive isotopes utilized in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies, employing various radioisotope equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, measure, and administer radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic studies, adhering to state and NRC protocols.
  • Ensure accurate administration of diagnostic and therapeutic doses of radiopharmaceuticals to patients.
  • Conduct intravenous catheter placements for patients requiring high-volume cardiology procedures.
  • Prepare patients and assist in monitoring EKG rhythms and blood pressure during stress tests.
  • Implement and uphold radiation safety measures when administering doses and disposing of radioactive materials.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on imaging equipment and dose calibrators.
  • Facilitate effective communication among staff to enhance patient care quality.
  • Maintain compliance with record-keeping requirements for inspections.
  • Gather and secure patient history and vital signs in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Position patients accurately for imaging to ensure high-quality data for cardiology evaluations.
  • Provide images and data analysis to physicians for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Execute computer processing and image enhancement tasks.
  • Conduct patient imaging procedures using advanced radiation-detecting instruments.
  • Offer basic life support services as necessary and assist with advanced life support when required.
  • Ensure patient safety and well-being during care.
  • Assess the quality of processed studies for film quality evaluation.
  • Operate mechanical and electronic instruments in the laboratory setting.
  • Administer Reclast infusions intravenously and provide pre-infusion instructions to patients.
  • Coordinate with referral specialists to confirm insurance approval for procedures.
  • Document completion of Reclast infusions in patient records.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, ensuring understanding of procedures.
  • Promote positive relations with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Exhibit professional conduct and appearance in accordance with ethical standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in operating imaging equipment and preparing radioactive drugs.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Proficient typing skills.
  • Adept at identifying urgent medical situations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while multitasking.

Work Environment: Well-lit medical office setting.

Mental/Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs. Frequent sitting and standing/walking required.
