Position Overview

As a Vehicle Emissions Compliance Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the development of On-Road and Off-Road Vehicles within an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) environment. A primary responsibility of this role is to secure certification approvals from regulatory bodies, ensuring our products comply with exhaust and evaporative emissions regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an effective Certification strategy focused on Exhaust Emissions for the USMCA market.
  • Provide expert guidance on emission regulations and amendments to various departments, including Engineering, Quality, and Commercial.
  • Collaborate with vehicle program teams to address emissions-related challenges and ensure compliance.
  • Review and approve vehicle emissions test group definitions for USMCA Certification.
  • Manage the Emissions Certification Test Program.
  • Prepare and submit data to U.S. EPA, CARB, and NHTSA regarding emissions and fuel economy requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between the company and external agencies on emissions certification matters.
  • Support the development and maintenance of internal policies and processes related to emissions standards and regulations.
  • Report to the Environmental Lead Engineer and actively participate in Engineering team communications and meetings.

Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Vehicle Emissions Certification (U.S. EPA / CARB / NHTSA regulations) within an OEM setting.
  • Proven knowledge of automotive design and engineering processes from concept to production.
  • Extensive experience with emissions and fuel economy regulations and testing procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience working with various government agencies.
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle emissions control systems, engine calibrations, and powertrains.
  • Ability to establish and maintain respect and trust with government agency personnel.
  • Strong research skills to navigate regulatory requirements and negotiate effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present information clearly.
  • Strong time management, planning, integrity, and teamwork abilities.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 10% of the time).
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving and influencing skills.
  • Capability to transition from analytical thinking to strategic planning.
  • Ability to critically assess situations and apply knowledge effectively.
