Role Description

The Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Pediatric Hematology Clinician. This center offers a dynamic and collaborative environment for research and clinical practice, with a diverse team of experts. The Hematology Program is a vital part of the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center, comprising 32 faculty members, including 14 focused on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and 9 advanced practice providers. Candidates should possess a robust background in providing clinical care for pediatric patients with SCD.

About the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center

The successful candidate will become part of one of the leading pediatric hematology/oncology programs nationwide.

  • In recent rankings, the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center was recognized among the top pediatric cancer programs in the country.
  • Annually, over 7,000 children with hematological and oncological conditions receive treatment at our center.
  • The pediatric hematology program is the largest in the nation, serving a significant number of patients with SCD and other blood disorders.
  • We lead in research related to Sickle Cell Disease and hemoglobinopathies.
  • Our Hemostasis and Thrombosis program is nationally recognized for its clinical and research excellence.
  • The Blood and Marrow Transplantation program conducts approximately 80 transplants each year, focusing on curative treatments for blood disorders.
  • The center includes 115 faculty and 35 advanced practice providers engaged in comprehensive research related to pediatric hematology and oncology.

  • The fellowship program trains six fellows annually in pediatric hematology/oncology.

This position primarily involves inpatient clinical responsibilities at the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center.

  • Deliver exceptional clinical care, ensuring the highest standards for patient treatment.
  • Allocate 70-90% of time to inpatient responsibilities, with additional duties in outpatient settings based on research interests.
  • Collaborate with program leaders to enhance clinical services for SCD and general hematology.
  • Opportunities for research and educational involvement may be available based on experience and interests.
  • Contribute to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows within the pediatric Hematology/Oncology/BMT Division.

Involvement may include both inpatient and outpatient duties, with adjustments based on service requirements.

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO degrees.
  • Board Certification in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology.
  • Current medical licensure and eligibility for licensure in the State of Georgia.
  • A proven track record of clinical excellence.
  • A strong history of mentoring trainees and junior faculty to foster research and academic growth.

Compensation and faculty rank will align with experience and achievements. The primary focus of this role will be on clinical service and administrative responsibilities.
