Role Overview:

The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of exceptional nursing services to patients. This position mandates adherence to nursing standards, practices, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and accreditation requirements, while aligning with current research and national professional benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee nursing service performance improvement initiatives.
2. Engage actively in hospital leadership activities.
3. Collaborate with executive leadership to enhance patient care services, ensuring adequate staffing with qualified nursing professionals.
4. Develop and manage the nursing services budget.

General Duties:

1. Formulate and execute a comprehensive nursing strategy that aligns with hospital objectives.
2. Establish and interpret nursing and patient care policies, setting standards for quality nursing care.
3. Administer the nursing services budget and expense management system.
4. Design a master staffing plan for nursing services.
5. Supervise daily nursing operations to guarantee quality care and adequate hospital coverage.
6. Recruit, assess, and hire qualified nursing personnel to meet patient needs.
7. Contribute to the hospital's quality assurance and improvement initiatives through service evaluations and audits.
8. Maintain effective communication with medical and administrative teams through regular meetings and committee involvement.
9. Evaluate equipment and supply needs for nursing care, forecasting service levels and material requirements.
10. Direct and implement training and educational programs for staff development.
11. Advocate for the development of new patient care initiatives to expand nursing services.

Representation:

The CNO serves as a representative of the hospital in healthcare programs and professional organizations, promoting public relations and fostering professional growth.

Qualifications:

1. Must possess a valid Registered Nurse license with comprehensive knowledge of nursing principles and practices, typically acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
2. A Master’s Degree (MSN or MHA) is required.
3. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a CNO in a healthcare organization is essential.
4. Experience with Joint Commission preparation and survey processes is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires prolonged periods of sitting, as well as some bending and stretching. Candidates must have the manual dexterity to operate office equipment and the ability to lift items up to 50 pounds occasionally. The work environment is primarily office-based, involving frequent interaction with staff and the public.
