Role Overview:
The Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality nursing services to patients while overseeing nursing service performance improvement initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring that nursing standards, practices, policies, and procedures align with current research and national professional benchmarks.
- Actively engaging in hospital leadership activities.
- Collaborating with hospital executives to design and implement patient care services, ensuring adequate and qualified nursing personnel.
- Developing, presenting, and managing the nursing services budget.
Core Responsibilities:
- Formulating and executing a comprehensive nursing strategy that aligns with hospital policies and objectives.
- Implementing and interpreting nursing and patient care policies to uphold quality nursing standards.
- Managing the nursing services budget and expense control systems.
- Preparing a master staffing plan for nursing services.
- Organizing, directing, and supervising daily nursing operations to ensure optimal hospital coverage and quality care.
- Recruiting, interviewing, evaluating, and hiring qualified nursing staff.
- Participating in the hospital's quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Maintaining effective communication with medical and administrative personnel.
- Assessing long-term and short-term equipment and supply needs for nursing care.
- Directing, planning, and implementing orientation and educational programs for staff development.
- Representing the hospital in healthcare initiatives and professional organizations.
Qualifications:
- Licensed Registered Nurse with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
- Master's Degree required (MSN or MHA).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a CNO in an investor-owned healthcare organization.
- Prior experience with Joint Commission preparation and survey processes.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
This role requires prolonged sitting, occasional bending, stooping, and stretching. The candidate must possess a normal range of hearing and eyesight. Work is conducted in an office environment with frequent interactions with staff and the public.
