Key Responsibilities
The Senior Histopathology Specialist is expected to undertake a variety of advanced tasks, which may include but are not limited to:
- Acting as a primary contact between team members and management.
- Executing complex procedures and analyses of tissue samples while mentoring staff in the handling of challenging specimens.
- Utilizing professional principles and methodologies from anatomic pathology to perform specialized testing techniques.
- Leading the implementation of new testing protocols, including research on staining methods, setup, validation, and documentation.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues related to specialized laboratory tests and equipment through independent judgment.
- Ensuring comprehensive coverage of responsibilities, conducting quality reviews, guiding staff, and facilitating training for new and existing employees.
- Conducting specialized staining and immunochemistry procedures using both automated and manual techniques.
- Preparing and sectioning tissue specimens for rapid diagnostic purposes during surgical procedures.
- Monitoring laboratory quality control measures and performance metrics.
- Assisting management in maintaining laboratory readiness for inspections and accreditation by relevant agencies.
Requirements

- Registration with Selective Service is required for males born after a specified date.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is essential.
- Participation in a probationary period may be required.
- Background and security investigations will be conducted.
- Selected candidates will complete an online onboarding process.
- Passing a pre-employment physical examination is mandatory.
- Participation in seasonal influenza vaccination programs is required for all health care personnel.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements is necessary for all health care personnel.
Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship: Only U.S. citizens may be appointed unless there are no qualified citizens available.
- Education: Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Completion of a four-year degree in a relevant health sciences field. OR
- A bachelor's degree with specific coursework in biology and chemistry. OR
- Completion of two years of graduate education in a related health sciences field.
- Certification: Candidates must hold current histotechnologist (HTL) certification from the ASCP Board of Certification.
- English Language Proficiency: Must demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English.
