About the Role

Cherry Bekaert Advisory, LLC is seeking a highly skilled R&D Tax Credit Consulting Services Senior Associate to join our team. As a Senior Associate, you will play a key role in providing tax consulting services related to the Research and Development Tax Credit and the capitalization and amortization rules under IRC Section 174.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Tax Consulting Services: Offer expert advice on tax matters related to R&D tax credits, including qualifying research activities and capitalization and amortization rules.
  • Conduct Technical Interviews: Gather qualitative details from clients on how their work meets the definition of qualifying research activities.
  • Review Technical Documentation: Draft project narratives to document how client projects meet Section 41 guidelines.
  • Work with Team Members: Collaborate with colleagues to scope Research Tax Credit benefits, conduct Research Tax Credit studies, perform tax technical research, and interact with clients in various industries.
  • Create and Update Costing Models: Develop and maintain costing models to track business expenditures and calculate credits and capitalization amounts.
  • Understand Employer Time Tracking: Integrate employer time tracking into projects to maximize Research Tax Credit benefits.
Requirements
  • Prior Experience: Possess prior experience working with clients and IRC Section 41 research credit.
  • Industry Experience: Have recent industry experience in software development, consulting, or engineering.
  • Education: Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Information Systems, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Technical Skills: Possess knowledge of common computer infrastructure concepts, web-based or n-tiered architectures, performance tuning of databases and middleware.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to conduct technical interviews and write project narratives.
  • Continuous Learning: Show an inquisitive mind and a willingness to continue educating yourself in the R&D tax credit specialty area.
