About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Tax Credit Consulting Services Senior Associate to join our team at Cherry Bekaert Advisory, LLC. As a key member of our Tax Credits & Incentives Advisory team, you will have the opportunity to work with clients across various industries, providing expert guidance on Research and Development Tax Credits and capitalization and amortization rules under IRC Section 174.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tax consulting services related to the Research and Development Tax Credit and the capitalization and amortization rules under IRC Section 174.
  • Conduct technical interviews to gather qualitative details on how clients' work meets the definition of qualifying research activities.
  • Review technical documentation to draft project narratives that document how clients' projects meet Section 41 guidelines.
  • Work with team members to scope Research Tax Credit benefits, conduct Research Tax Credit studies, perform tax technical research, and interact with clients in a wide range of industries.
  • Create and update costing models to track business expenditures and calculate credits and capitalization amounts.
  • Understand the value of employer time tracking and how it can be integrated into a project.
Requirements
  • Prior experience working with clients and IRC Section 41 research credit from an accounting firm.
  • Recent industry experience in software development, consulting, or engineering is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, Information Systems, Accounting, or Finance.
  • Knowledge of common computer infrastructure concepts, web-based or n-tiered architectures, performance tuning of databases and middleware.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to conduct technical interviews and write up project narratives.
  • An inquisitive mind with a desire to continue educating yourself in your specialty area.
