At Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital, our CRNA team is responsible for managing a variety of cases, excluding trauma, obstetrics, open heart, and liver surgeries. Most CRNAs in our facility work 12-hour shifts, and these roles do not require weekday on-call or night shifts.

Weston is located in Broward County, approximately 30 miles northwest of Miami, and is part of the Miami metropolitan area.

Position Summary:


Conducts pre-anesthetic assessments of patients, documents relevant notes in medical records, orders necessary laboratory tests, and interprets lab results under the guidance of the anesthesiologist.

Administers anesthesia in accordance with established standards set by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) and the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FANA). Maintains proficiency in anesthesia equipment, adheres to standard medical practices during the induction, maintenance, and management of anesthesia emergencies. Engages in regular communication with medical staff, colleagues, and patients as well as their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts pre-anesthetic evaluations, documents findings, and orders and assesses laboratory tests.
  • Develops an anesthetic care strategy based on current knowledge and scientific principles, explains procedures to patients, and addresses any inquiries.
  • Prepares preoperative documentation, maintains accurate anesthesia records, ensures confidentiality, and demonstrates empathy towards patients and their families.
  • Administers anesthesia in accordance with AANA and FANA standards.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of anesthesia equipment, follows medical protocols for anesthesia induction, maintenance, and emergencies.
  • Ensures a sterile environment and that the workspace is free from hazards.
  • Continuously monitors patients throughout the anesthesia process, documents observations, identifies abnormal physiological responses, takes corrective actions, requests necessary tests, and provides emergency care as needed.
  • Ensures safe recovery from anesthesia in line with accepted guidelines.
  • Transfers patients to the appropriate recovery area, collaborates with ICU staff, and remains until a report is provided and the patient's condition is stable.
  • Recognizes expected or unusual patient responses in the postoperative setting and initiates corrective measures.
  • Regularly evaluates patient outcomes.
  • Maintains thorough and current documentation and records at all times.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues and patients.
  • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).
  • Follows emergency protocols as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthetist Program.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices.
  • Awareness of the physical and general characteristics of various age groups.

Certifications Required:

  • Florida Nurse Anesthetist License. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification in Florida.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one year in Critical Care Nursing.

Physical Requirements:

  • Essential Duties: This position requires knowledge of Cleveland Clinic Florida Hospital, Clinic, and Surgical Services policies and procedures. The ability to communicate effectively with medical staff, colleagues, and patients is essential.
  • Physical Requirements: This role requires prolonged periods of standing and involves light, moderate, and heavy physical work. The ability to lift or assist in lifting patients is necessary. Patient care may involve reaching, pulling, pushing, bending, and stooping.
  • Working Conditions: The individual works in a well-lit unit equipped with state-of-the-art medical monitoring equipment. The unit is air-conditioned. There is a moderate risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, or potentially infectious materials. Employees are provided with personal protective equipment and offered hepatitis B screenings and immunizations.
