MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

High School Diploma or GED Certificate.

Master of Legal Studies.

Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school preferred.

Ability to obtain Navajo Nation Bar License within one year.

1 year of experience in the practice of law for private, public, or government sectors.

Utility law experience preferred.

Navajo law experience preferred.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

Conducts comprehensive legal research on Navajo Nation Code, various State and Federal statutes, regulations, case law, and policies to analyze facts and legal principles of cases, identify causes of action, and prepare legal strategies.

Reviews contracts for goods and services to ensure compliance with procurement laws and internal policies, while providing support to the entire NTUA Legal Department through correspondence management and preparation of legal documents and summaries.

Researches and evaluates legal documents to deliver research assistance for the NTUA Legal Department.

Assesses information to ensure adherence to standards, utilizing relevant data and personal judgment to confirm compliance with applicable laws, regulations, or standards.

Offers legal and administrative support to the NTUA Legal Department by managing written correspondence, preparing memoranda, and drafting case law briefs and legislative summaries.

Establishes and maintains an organized system for filing and retrieving confidential files and records, ensuring their confidentiality and security.

Drafts and maintains affidavits, document files, and case correspondence, while assisting in the creation of ordinances and policies that align with NTUA and the Navajo Nation's self-governance objectives.

Sets specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and achieve work objectives efficiently.

Participates in Navajo Nation Council meetings and other discussions related to tribal regulatory matters.

Completes all assigned tasks in a timely manner, adhering to project timelines and regulatory deadlines. Enhances turnaround times for contract reviews and regulatory filings by implementing streamlined processes.

Maintains high standards in drafting and reviewing legal documents, minimizing errors and omissions.

Performs additional duties as assigned.
