Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Early Childhood Special Education Teacher to join our team at Window Rock School District 8. As a member of our educational community, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to FERPA regulations
  • Provide case management services for students on individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Teach content and skills in assigned subject areas, using adopted textbooks and enforcing approved course of study
  • Plan lessons that meet the individual needs, interests, and ability levels of students
  • Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student
  • Create a safe and orderly environment, conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity and interests
  • Exercise supervision over students in and out of the classroom when assigned
  • Assume responsibility for professional development and staying current with literature, research findings, and improved teaching techniques
  • Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
  • Assess student accomplishments on a regular basis and provide progress reports/grades as required
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve problems associated with health, attitude, and learning difficulties
  • Communicate with parents and school counselors in the interest of each student
  • Makes decisions regarding retention and promotion of students
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct information relating to attendance, lesson plans, IEPs, and other record keeping
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records
  • Participate in faculty meetings and the sponsorship of student activities
  • Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
  • Maintain current inventory control of all equipment and materials in individual's work area or classroom
  • Follow mandates of State, Federal, and the Navajo Nation Laws as well as established District policies
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Possess a bachelor or master's degree from an accredited university in Special Education
  • Valid Arizona teaching certificate in Early Childhood Special Education (Birth through 8/Gr 3)
  • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Other qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate
Working Environment

This position is physically comfortable, with normal classroom work and a normal classroom environment.

Supervision

This position receives supervision from the ESS Director and Building Principal.
